I came across this recipe from one of my favorite foodie bloggers’ website. Both recipes sound delicious so I couldn't decide on which recipe so I decided to share both for you to choose from. I wouldn't necessarily have the first hearty shrimp and grits recipe for breakfast, but it would be perfect for a Saturday brunch with Mimosa or a Friday night date.

By now many of us have gotten a cold or the dreaded flu and we are only halfway through the winter season, although there is no guaranteed way of avoiding getting sick all together, there are still some remedies that will help. According to the Truly Living Well blog and agricultural Website, "eating well will help keep you well."

A few dietary must-have stay well remedies include:  

Fresh garlic, it's a rich source of allicin, another immune-boosting and anti-inflammatory power nutrient.

I love cucumbers, they are the super of super foods.  This vegetable is packed with vitamin B & C, electrolytes, potassium, magnesium, fiber, and cancer-fighting compounds. They are delicious with dip, recently I tasted it with hummus and now I find out it is a refreshing drink when infused with your favorite alcohol.

I received a nice surprise today and was treated to lunch by a friend. I had heard that Souper Jenny Restaurant is a popular spot about a month ago, and the quality of and taste of the food is delicious, so I suggested that we check it out. When we arrived the first thing we experienced was the delicious smells of savory soups, wholesome sandwiches and healthy salad served with a side of hospitality.

Baked Sweet Potato

If you feel like you're running on fumes during the day, it could be what you're eating. Rev up your energy by eating healthier snacks and meals. You are what you eat so consider eating foods that are going to make you feel and look good.

I am learning that empty calories (donuts, candy, and other junk foods) leave me feeling well, empty. Now that I've been eating healthier, I noticed that I feel full longer and I'm satisfied overall.

Did you know that swirling your glass of wine introduces oxygen to the wine? Swirling your wine improves the taste and releases the aroma after being in the bottle. The trick is to make sure the glass is not too full. Next hold the wine glass by the stem and swirl.

Guilt-free snacks are the tastiest because there is something about eating healthy that is satisfying in itself. Eating right is good for your body, after all, you ARE what you EAT.

Hummus is an excellent snack to eat as a dip with your veggies and chips, or bread as a sandwich. I'm sure there are many other ways to eat it, I just started eating it a few years ago so I've been playing it safe. Hummus originated in the middle-east and is a simple mixture of thoroughly ground chickpeas and extra-virgin olive oil.

The ingredients can be prepared with your food processor and no cooking required.

Pancakes are always a treat for breakfast and American have many names for pancakes: griddlecakes, flapjacks, buckwheat and cornmeal cakes, hoecakes, and johnnycakes and the list goes on. My mother enjoyed making hoecakes (especially to eat with her fish and greens). 

I have a close friend who adds bananas to her pancakes and another who makes sweet potato pancakes and both are delicious. 

Pancakes can be even more fun to eat when cooked in whimsically shaped molds.


Fry upsome crisp bacon, sausage (turkey of course) and fluffy scrambled eggs and enjoy a nice breakfast with the family.

Cornbread is a Southern comfort food, it fills you up, adds texture to your meal, and you need only a few basic ingredients to make it (usually staple ingredients for every kitchen). we had cornbread at every meal in my grandparents houses.

I remember my grandfather would eat left over cornbread dipped in his buttermilk and I think with a little sugar or hot out the oven with syrup over it. Bless his heart, and of course, we would look at him as though he was from another world (I miss him).
